(En Español abajo)In February 2006, we chartered a Boat to go diving off Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. I was acting Divemaster, and got a total of 12 divers. The reef we chose was where lies the Boiler Wreck, in the Abu Madafi area.
Since the diving site is on the Windward (West) side of the Reef, boats dropping divers must be careful, especially in rough waters, or else they’ll end up next to the Boiler. Our captain did not come close enough to the reef, since the conditions were pretty rough, and we missed the reef. We ended up in Deep Blue. Our “Plan B” was to go down to 20 mts (66 Ft) and navigate with the compass to find the reef. Then this uninvited guest showed up. It was a Bull Shark, about 9 Ft (3 mts) long; it circled us for about 3 minute, and luckily it was not hungry!
You’ll see footage of 2 cameras: mine and Monika’s. She took the longest clip, and once the shark goes away, she filmed us. You’ll see the bubbles of my regulator at around 1 min 45 sec into the video coming from the bottom right corner, and then you’ll see me 2 sec later, wearing a Yellow sleeves wet suit, chasing the shark with my camera. At the end, you’ll see my footage where Brave Monika chases the Shark with Roland’s camera. You’ll also hear our dive computer alarms beeping for ascending too fast chasing the shark for video.
En Febrero 2006, alquilamos un bote para bucear saliendo de Jeddah, en Arabia Saudita. Eramos un grupo de 12 buzos, y yo era el guía. El arrecife escogido para esta inmersión fué en donce yace el barco hundido “Boiler”, en el área de Abu Madafi.
Como el sitio de buceo está en el lado de Sotavento (Oeste) del arrecife, los barcos dejando buzos deber tener cuidado, especialmente con mar de leva, o terminarán al lado del Boiler. Nuestro capitán no quiso acercarse mucho al arrecife porque las olas eran altas, y al lanzarnos pelamos el arrecife y caímos en Azul Profundo. El Plan B era bajar hasta 20 mts y navegar por brújula hasta el arrecife. Entonces se apareció este pana no invitado: un Tiburón Toro de unos 3 mts de largo; nos dió vueltas por unos 3 minutos, y por suerte el tipo no tenía hambre!
En este video hay material de 2 cámaras: la mía y la de Monika. Ella grabó el más largo, y cuando el tiburón se va, nos filmó a nosotros. Verán las burbujas de mi regulador en el minuto y 45 segundos saliendo de la esquina inferior derecha, y 2 seg. luego aparezco yo (con traje con mangas amarillas), siguiendo al tiburón con mi cámara. Al final se ve a la valiente Monika persiguiendo al Tiburón con la cámara de Roland. También se escuchan las alarmas de nuestras computadoras de buceo, por ascender más rápido de lo debido filmando al tiburón.

I was involved in a motor vehicle accident over a year ago, my best friend has invited me to go scuba diving with him in Hawaii and I really want to go. Do I need any special equipment or recommendations to go diving? I also got my PADI open water diver certification a few years ago, do I need any other certifications since I have a disability now? I also want to go snorkeling, has anyone done this either? I would just like to know who has done it and how so I can be a lil more confident and not freak out.
