What do you wear when you scuba dive?

scuba gear
Ti asked:

1) at an indoor pool;
2) outside in warm water;
3) outside in colder water?

Should I just wear regular swimwear? How about sunburn and rash from the scuba gear?

    In a pool and warm water it’s a good idea to wear a tee shirt in addition to your swim suit. That will protect your body from the swim gear.

    In cooler water you will want to have a wet suit (or dry suit if you’re wealthier). Special suits are available for diving in extreme cold temperatures.

    You hear the water (like if you hold your head under water) and the air from your tank along with your breathing.

    If you are in open water you hear the same as above and also, the waves, the “randon” underwater noises, like rocks knocking together and your swim buddies moving around.

    Wear weather appropriate clothes. If its cold, or you are in cold and or deep water you will want to wear a scuba bodysuit so you don’t get hypothermia. If it is warm, non too deep, or you are more of a “snorkler” versus a “diver”, you can use regular swim wear. Be sure your suit covers your back, the tank and straps can rub and pinch id you aren’t careful.

    Have a great time. and stick close to the ecperienced divers.

    1) I wear a competitive kneeskin or shortjohn when scuba dive training in our local indoor pool.
    2) When diving in warm sea water, ordinary swimwear may be OK. However, if a fast boat is used to get to a site, I’d wear a wetsuit shorty to give some warmth in the boat (it can be quite cool if one is travelling at speed, even in a warm climate.
    3) if diving in cold water, I’d wear a drysuit, especially if there’s a bit of a wind blowing: it can be miserable getting out of a wetsuit with a cold wind blowing and giving wind chill.

    1. In a pool use a swimsuit and a t-shirt. Your gear will rub on your shoulders and give you a bit of a burn before the night is over.
    2. Outside in warm water I’d suggest a thin wetsuit like 2 or 3mm or a diving skin. You can still get sunburned if you are on the surface of the water or a boat. A wetsuit will help protect you from anything that will stick you or cut you.
    3. Outside in cold water is what I dive in. I’m from the puget sound. I use a dry suit with a 200 thinsulate undergarment. In the summer we can use 7mm wetsuits but the dives are shorter. I’ve dove in the winter in a 7mm wetsuit and it wasn’t fun.
